How private is your sectional after all?
Your right to control access to your property is limited
By Anton Kelly
One of the fundamental rights of property ownership is the right to control who comes onto your property. But like many other rights, this right is limited. Officials of the local municipality, Telkom technicians and, of course, the police may enter your property against your will, under the right circumstances. Additionally, in sectional title schemes, the right to control access to your property is limited in two particular ways.

In this article, Anton discusses two ways in which your right to control access to your property is limited. (reading time: ± 1 min)

New plumbing certificate of compliance
City of Cape Town gazetted new Property Sales by-law
By Larry Berger
The City of Cape Town has finally gazetted a new Property Sales by-law that is now in effect. Just like the Electrical Certificate of Compliance (COC), a Plumbing COC is now needed when a property is being sold. One of the important changes is that a Certificate of Compliance of water installation must now be obtained and submitted to the City upon the transfer of a property to a new owner. This applies to domestic, commercial, and industrial properties, and includes sectional title units.

In this article, Larry unpacks the reasons for the new by-law and what it applies to. (reading time: ± 2 mins)
