The course in a nutshell:
- 10-week part-time course presented through online distance learning
- Teaches students the legal aspects of home owners’ association (HOA) management
- Course material covers HOAs established in terms of section 21 of the Companies Act and common law associations
- Expand your expertise by completing the only specialised course in home owners' association management offered in South Africa
- Compiled and convened by Prof Graham Paddock
How is HOA different to sectional title?Sectional title schemes are created and managed under the national Sectional Titles Act, 1986. However, home owners' associations in South Africa are not governed by any national legislation. They are either established in terms of section 21 of the Companies Act or as common law associations, created to manage particular communities, often "gated" and operated separately from the surrounding properties.
With approximately 530 000 home owners' association units throughout South Africa, compared to 780 000 sectional title units, managing HOAs is a good opportunity for existing and prospective property managers. Who should attend this course?
Anyone involved in the management of HOAs, and particularly those who render management services to HOAs, including managing agents, estate managers, directors, portfolio managers, attorneys, estate agents, developers, scheme auditors and accountants, dispute resolution service providers, trustees and owners.
